Janet Roston

JANET ROSTON is an award-winning Director/Choreographer working in theater, concert dance, television, music videos, live tours, and commercials. Some of her numerous credits include "The Color Purple" and "The Boy from Oz" (Celebration Theatre) where she received Ovation, NAACP and LADCC Awards; direction and choreography for the viral YouTube video "You Can't Stop the Beat" (3.9 million views) raising money for the Actor's Fund;  choreography for London's Royal Academy of Music, Palm Desert Choreography Festival, Los Angeles Dance Festival, and Pasadena Dance Festival. Additional credits include: "Cabaret," (LADCC Award, Stage Raw Award); “Once On this Island,” (International City Theater, NAACP Nomination); “Avenue X,” (Odyssey Theater, Ovation Award Nomination); “Failure,  A Love Story” (Courage Theater, Ovation Nomination); "Midsummer Night's Dream," (Tennessee Shakespeare Company); “Striking 12” (Laguna Playhouse); “Tonya and Nancy"; The Rock Opera” (ART, Boston); “CarnEvil" (Sacred Fools Theater); “shAme,” (King King Nightclub); "The Wanting" (Highways). 

 

Janet is the Artistic Director of Mixed eMotion Theatrix, a theatrical company that combines music, contemporary dance, movement derived from cultural traditions, theater, film and multi-media to create hybrid performance experiences in live theater and online content. Janet is a Co-creator of several of the company's shows including "Anaïs Nin: Unbound," which ran at Greenway Court theatre in Los Angeles followed by several other performances and a triumphant success Avignon Festival D'Off 2017 in Avignon, France; "So Now You Know" (La Mirada, Arts for the Schools Tour, Wallis Annenberg Center); "Gatsby Redux" (Walt Disney Concert Hall, Tulsa International Dance Festival, Greystone Mansion); and "The Shadow" a new musical in-development and Jim Henson Foundation Grant Finalist which uses projections, puppetry, music, vocals, dance and shadow play in its redemptive retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's story.

 

Janet has received two American Choreography Awards, is a proud alumni of the Directors Lab, and a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
